Steps To Prepare Your Home For The Upcoming Baby

The 911 Restoration family would like to congratulate you on the newest member of your family, and wish you and your new baby healthy and fulfilling life. We have put together a list of precaution steps to make sure your house is ready for the new member of your family.

Air Quality Testing & Air Purifier

Clean air and a baby's immune system are inextricably linked.  It is so important, that a baby breathes clean air so that its little lungs and its immune system have time to rest and rejuvenate. In the very least, the baby's bedroom or room where it does most of its sleeping should have a high quality air purifier. An effective air purifying system will help maintain your home environment free from airborne contaminants that might enter through windows, doors, etc.

Some mother's worry that if their baby's rooms are too clean the babies won't develop the natural immunities required to for general health.  That argument doesn't quite hold up when it comes to airborne particles.  Breathing in dust, pollens, mold spores, and pet allergens are bad for adults with healthy systems, but for babies they can lead to greatly weakened systems.

Air testing is the way of measuring the the indoor air quality in our homes. We send samples of air from your environment to a 3rd party lab which will analyze the samples and send us the report for continued service. Our certified professional analyze the report and provide you with the most efficient and effective way to decontaminate and clean all mold types while providing 100% clearance pass guarantee.

Mold (visible or non Visible), Mildew, Fungal Infestation, etc.

Mold has become one of the leading problems in most home across the country.  For any parent to avoid the leading problems that mold will bring to your child in the future, you should take the necessary precautions.

Where does most Mold Grow?
Be aware that most molds grow on wood, fiber, or paper that has gotten wet for more than a few days. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the tiny mold spores float through the air and land on inviting damp spots. The spores then get blown up into ventilation systems and are distributed around the house.
The only way to get rid of the mold permanently is to get rid of the moisture:

  • Fix leaks and seepage, even if it involves landscaping around basements.
  • Put plastic over dirt in crawls paces and keep them well ventilated.
  • Use exhaust fans in kitchen and bathroom.
  • Turn off humidifiers if you see condensation on windows.
  • Use dehumidifiers and air conditioners, especially in hot, humid climates.
  • Pay special attention to carpet on concrete floors. Use area rugs that can be lifted and washed.
  • Or install a vapor barrier over the concrete.

Carpet Cleaning

Cleaning your carpet and area rugs will get rid of any dust and dust mites and other germs or bacteria that have fallen to the floor and may be stirred up to harm your baby’s general health. Dirty carpets can trap chemical and biological pollutants that are carried in the air or tracked in from the outside and damp, dirty carpet is breeding ground for biological pollutant. That is why it is important to have regular cleanings to help reduce these problems.

Air Duct Cleaning & decontamination

Air ducts are one of the most common causes for allergies, colds, sore throat, coughing, etc.

Air duct cleaning is an important part of home maintenance. A dirty air duct can lower the quality of the air in your house promoting the circulation of allergens and bacteria in the air.  That is why it is very important to have all your air duct vents in your home cleaned out before your newborn comes home.  Cleaning your air ducts thoroughly and performing seasonal decontamination on them will greatly reduce the amount of airborne debris that may be harmful to the respiratory health of your entire family, including your sensitive newborn.

There are many signs that indicate the need for a thorough air duct cleaning:

  • The growth of mold inside the ducts or on the surface  of the cooling or heating system
  • The infestation of insects or any small unwanted pests in the ducts
  • If they are clogged with a great deal of dust or other debris

UVC Silent Light

UVC Silent Light is an air purifying system made for the air ducts, and designed to sterilize and significantly reduce the quantity of  microorganisms as they pass through the Heating/Air Conditioning system in order to create better overall indoor air quality.

Green Products

Did you know, “that a nationwide study of randomly selected umbilical cord blood samples obtained from the American Red Cross by the Environmental Working Group revealed 287 industrial chemicals passed through the mother’s placenta into the womb.” Not only are newborn babies starting life with a toxic overload, but on out of eight is being born prematurely. The chemicals that are being used in our household cleaning supplies are currently sabotaging our environment, this includes mutagens that cause permanent genetic cell changes and edocrine disrupters which can mimic, block or interfere with natural hormone function.

To reduce exposure to harmful common household cleaning supplies such as bleach, detergents etc, and 911 restoration strongly recommends using eco friendly organic products. For your convenience, many of these products are available for purchase through our website.
